Born Strong was written to sit where two worlds meet — the lived experience of a NICU family and the science that helps explain it. Throughout the book, the "The Science of…" sections draw on peer-reviewed research in neonatology, developmental neuroscience, and psychology, alongside guidance from hospitals, clinical bodies, and family organisations.
The references below bring those sources together, chapter by chapter, so you can read further into any topic that speaks to you — whether that's brain development, family-integrated care, kangaroo care, or growth after trauma. Some are technical; others are written for parents. All of them shaped the book.
If you notice anything that needs correcting, I'd be grateful to hear from you — keeping this list accurate matters to me.
